Autumnal October Half Term Activities To Do In The Peak District

As the leaves start to turn, and the nights draw in, it’s the perfect time to book a week away! Come and stay with us this autumn half term at Hargate Hall, you’ll find plenty of activities to do in the Peak District. Autumn is a lovely time to explore and walk in the Peaks. Plus, your Hargate Hall apartment will be toasty and warm, ready for your return from a day of adventures.

We’ve listed some of the best autumn activities for you to do in the Peak District this October half term.

Spooky Potions Trail at Ilam Park

Head to the stunning National Trust property at Ilam Park for some imaginary potion making. As you venture deeper into the woods, you’ll come across spooky stations that will test your nature detective skills. You can always warm up with a tasty hot chocolate in the café, too. With various dates over October and half term, you’ll be able to add this visit to your Hargate Holiday.

Thornbridge Gardens

Sticking with the spooky theme, why not head to Thornbridge Gardens? They are hosting a Halloween Week from Saturday 22th to Sunday 30th October. With a week of Spooktacular activities planned, visitors to The Gardens can enjoy, prizes for the best fancy dress a Halloween hunt and crafts area, freaky treats and ghost stories with Andrea (only on Saturday 29th October). Access to Halloween activities is included with Garden entry. Thornbridge is a lovely drive away from Hargate Hall and you’ll find a delightful café waiting for you after your garden visit.

Matlock Bath Illuminations

Why not head to Matlock Bath Illuminations? It’s a fun-packed family event featuring a spectacular parade of illuminated and decorated boats along the River Derwent and special firework evenings. It’s a great chance to stop off for fish and chips in town too.

“During the 7-week season Matlock Bath Venetian Boat Builders’ Association decorate themed models with an array of coloured lights. The models are mounted on rowing boats and paraded on the River Derwent each Saturday (from around 7.45pm in September and from around 7pm in October) and Sundays (from around 7.30pm in September and 7pm in October) in Derwent Gardens, giving a unique and luminous display”.

The Peak Cavern Cinema

A cinema in a cave? Yep, that’s right. Head to this incredible event this October half term for an epic film screening. The Peak Cavern cave is a spectacular natural cave, located in the beautiful village of Castleton in the Peak District. This cave is the unique venue for a cinema trip, and you can order drinks and snacks to your seat, as well as take advantage of the pop-up bars located on site. There are some spooky films showing this October, but be careful, the tickets sell out quickly!
