Festive Things To Do In The Peak District In Winter

It’s almost December, and that means the festive season is upon us. Hargate Hall looks magical in the winter, with crispy leaves on the ground, blue skies and chilly mornings, and winter sunsets that bring the hills to life. Winter is a fantastic time for a break, a weekend getaway to help you relax before the big day. Or a mid-week escape could be just what you need to start the festive season off in style this year.

Traditionally, the holiday season is a time for giving. People start thinking of gift giving months and days ahead so that they do not have to make last-minute trips to the store. Especially when it comes to getting gifts for the younger ones, knowing their interests makes it easier to look for either basketball gift ideas or soccer, books, or other toys, treats, candies, and much more. But after exchanging gifts, there are lots of local activities and events to help make your stay even more festive such as visiting the Peak District.

We’ve rounded up four of the most festive things to do in the Peak District this year. You may just need to grab your winter jacket womens, a pair of leather boots and gloves and get ready to head out. However, the question is which activity will you start with?

Four festive Peak District Activities

  1. Christmas at Chatsworth

Visiting Chatsworth at any time of year is spectacular, but the Christmas festivities have a very special draw. You’ll find their popular Christmas market, with over 100 stalls with live music and other events. But the main attraction is the house. Each year, the Christmas theme changes, and the house is transformed into a winter wonderland. Be sure to book your tickets in advance to secure your space.

  1. Christmas shopping in local independent shops

Make your way to Buxton, Bakewell, Leek or Ashbourne for some lovely local Christmas shopping. You’ll find lots of unique gifts and you’ll also be supporting local artists and makers. The Cavendish Arcade in Buxton has lots of wonderful shops, you’ll be sure to find the perfect gift.

  1. Head to the hills!

A winter walk is a must-do when holidaying in the Peak District over the festive period. Snow-covered peaks and frost paths will provide you with stunning photo opportunities and it will allow you to embrace the outdoors. You’ll find some great walks in this post, and if the outdoors is your thing, we can help you with even more activities.

  1. Castleton Christmas Trees

Nestled in the White Peak, Castleton isn’t far from Hargate, and each year the quaint village showcases a beautiful display of Christmas trees. Why not pop over for a pint and enjoy the view. If you’re lucky, you may also be able to book tickets for a Christmas Carol Concert in the caverns located not far from the village! We think that sounds like a pretty perfect day out!

There is much to do in the Peak District over the festive season. It’s well worth a visit. Be sure to book your stay with us and enjoy all the Peak District has to offer. You could even make it a Christmas to remember and book to stay at Hargate for the whole of the Christmas period and even see in the New Year!
