One of the best things about Hargate Hall is its location. We are based in the heart of the Peaks, and you can explore, walk, hike, paddle, cycle – all within a few minutes’ drive. Why not make the most of our stunning location and get outside whilst on your holiday! Try these 4 fun outdoor activities whilst on your Peak District Holiday.
Outdoor Activities in the Peak District
Nestled on the Derbyshire/ Staffordshire border, you’ll find Tittesworth Reservoir. It’s a fantastic place for a day trip from Hargate Hall. On one side of the reservoir you’ll find the Severn Trent visitor centre. There are some great walking trails, a lovely playground and a café filled with tasty treats – perfect for a morning coffee or an afternoon tea. But there’s more.
On the opposite side of the reservoir, you’ll find Tittesworth Watersports Centre.
“The reservoir is Staffordshire’s second largest at 190 acres, renowned for its stunning views of the Roaches, a dramatic gritstone edge, there is something for everyone to enjoy on the site which borders the Peak District National Park.”
There are many options for outdoor activities at Tittesworth Watersports, you could try Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP), Kayaking, or Canoeing. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner; they offer taster sessions and 1:1 coaching. It’s an activity that the whole family can enjoy!
Another fantastic day trip to add to your Hargate Hall holiday plan is a trip along the Monsal Trail. The old railway line has been converted into an accessible, car-free trail with nearly 9 miles of spectacular views and stunning countryside.
Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire makes your cycle trip as easy as possible. You can hire bikes for adults, children, baby seats, and even dog trailers – but what’s more, it’s really reasonably priced. You’ll find some great information on their website too, showing all the cafes and pubs along the route – that’s our type of cycle trip! You’ll find great parking and lots of signage. What are you waiting for? This is another fantastic family-friendly day trip.
If paddling and cycling seem a little tame, why not try an abseil? Now that’s a holiday story to take back home with you.
Abseiling Derbyshire says: “Imagine an old railway bridge with pillars and arches, spanning a narrow gorge, and one of the arches is over a swift-moving river. Welcome to Millers Dale Bridge! Millers Dale Bridge provides the most spectacular Peak District abseil site. Here you can have your Derbyshire abseiling adrenaline rush!”
You can book directly through the Abseiling Derbyshire website, and it’s only a short drive from Hargate Hall. Now wouldn’t that be an incredible way to start your holiday!
If abseiling has given you a taste for heights, then you’re going to love Go Ape Buxton! It’s one of the highest Go Ape UK courses, standing at 1200 feet! It’s in central Buxton and you can be ready for your tree top adventure after a short drive from Hargate Hall.
Here’s what Go Ape Buxton promise awaits you on their adventure course.
“This stunning high ropes challenge promises dizzying heights, high speed zips and one of the biggest Tarzan Swing drops. Whether you’re looking for the ultimate, adrenaline-filled trail or preferring a gentler passageway through the trees, we’ve got all high-level bases covered with the Pannjarve Bridge, a Net Bridge and a tricky Jungle Crossing.”
